TOXIC OPTIC NERVE AFFECTION DUE TO PROLONGED USE OF LAEVOMYCETIN AGAINST THE BACKGROUND OF CODTERPINUM ADDICTION

The article describes four cases of toxic optic neuritis in young patients as a result of taking Laevomycetinum against the background of Codterpinum containing drug addiction. Ophthalmoscopy picture varied from the complete absence of pathological changes to papillitis and atrophy of the optic disc. The desintoxication, anti-inflammatory, dehydration and vitamin therapy course was given. There were prescribed medicines for improvement of trophism and regeneration, and neuroprotective drugs. Treatment resulted in improvement of the visual function (visual acuity improvement and light sensitivity in scotoma areas, expansiton of borders of the visual field). The fact of the long-term Laevomycetinum taking should alert the doctor that Codterpinum containing drugs result in addiction.
